Cello Classes
The cello is one of the most rewarding instruments anyone can take up — and one of the hardest to find proper teaching for in this city. Cornucopia offers cello classes in Bangalore taught from the ground up, on the international ABRSM path from Grade 1 to Grade 8, at both our centres and online. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a string player drawn to a deeper voice, you’ll learn on a curriculum that knows exactly where you are and where you’re going.
It helps that the cello is played by the people who built this academy: our founder is a cellist as well as a violinist and violist. This isn’t an instrument we teach at arm’s length — it’s one we play.
What you’ll learn
- Sitting posture, and how to hold the cello and bow without tension
- Reading the bass clef fluently, with rhythm and timing
- Left-hand technique — finger placement, first position, then shifting up the fingerboard
- Bowing technique — legato, détaché, dynamics, and a clean, singing tone
- Scales and arpeggios, built steadily toward each ABRSM grade’s requirements
- Graded repertoire, from Baroque through to contemporary pieces
- Aural training and sight-reading, prepared properly for ABRSM exams
- Ensemble playing and listening, where group classes allow
- Exam preparation — for ABRSM or Trinity College London grade exams, if and when you choose to take them
Group and individual classes
Both are available, at both centres and online. Individual classes move at exactly your pace, with the whole lesson built around your hands, your repertoire, and your goals. Group classes add something the cello especially benefits from — playing alongside others, listening across parts, and the steady motivation of learning in company. Many students do both. We’ll help you choose what fits.
