Counselling
Some things are easier to say to someone who is not family, not a friend, and not going to repeat them.
Cornucopia offers confidential counselling with a qualified counsellor, in person at our centres and online. It is open to anyone — you do not need to be a student here, and it has nothing to do with music.
Who you would be talking to
Magdalene Daniel is a counselling practitioner holding a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology from the CGLD School of Counselling.
Sessions are confidential. What is said in the room stays in the room, with the narrow exceptions any counsellor is bound by — where there is a serious risk of harm to you or to someone else.
What people come with
There is no threshold you have to cross before counselling is worth it. People come with:
- Stress, pressure, and the feeling of being permanently behind
- Anxiety, low mood, or a persistent flatness that is hard to name
- Exam and academic pressure, and the expectations that sit underneath it
- Difficulty in a relationship — with a partner, a parent, a child, a friend
- Grief, loss, and change that has not settled
- Confidence, self-worth, and the internal voice that will not let up
- Something you cannot yet put a name to
You do not need to have a diagnosis, a crisis, or a tidy explanation. “I am not doing well and I do not know why” is a complete reason to come.
How it works
Getting started
You send an enquiry through the private form below. Magdalene responds directly and arranges a first conversation. Nobody else at the academy sees what you write.
In person or online
Sessions run at our centres or over a secure video call, whichever you prefer. Online works well for most people and removes the commute, which in Bengaluru is not a small consideration.
How many sessions
That depends entirely on you. Some people come once. Some come weekly for a period. You are not committing to anything by starting, and you can stop at any point without explaining why.
Fees
Fees are discussed at enquiry. Please ask — it is a normal question and nobody will find it awkward.
Counselling for children and young people
We see clients under eighteen. For anyone below that age, a parent or legal guardian must consent before the first session and is involved in setting it up.
Within that, the young person’s confidence in the process matters. What is discussed in session is treated with care, and Magdalene will explain at the outset what is shared with parents and what is not, so that nobody is surprised later.
If a young person would be better served by a clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, or school-based support, we will say so and help you find it.
What this is, and isn’t
This is supportive counselling — talking with a qualified counsellor to work through what you are dealing with.
It is not clinical psychology, psychiatry, medical treatment, or diagnosis. No medication is prescribed and no conditions are diagnosed. Where someone would be better served by clinical or medical care, we will tell you plainly and help with a referral rather than continue.
If you are in crisis, this page is not the right place to start.
Counselling here works on an appointment basis and is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate distress or thinking about harming yourself, please call Tele-MANAS on 14416 — India’s free national mental health helpline, available at any hour in English and twenty regional languages. The alternate number is 1800 891 4416. If someone is in immediate physical danger, call 112.
