Voice & Singing Classes
The voice is the one instrument everyone is born with. Learning to use it well — with control, range, breath, and confidence — is a craft like any other. And like any craft, it can be taught patiently, at any age, whether you have sung all your life or have never sung a note in front of another person.
At Cornucopia, singing is taught as a discipline, not a party trick: how the breath supports the tone, how pitch is found and held, how a voice grows in range and colour over time.
The voice as an instrument
Solo singing asks more of you than joining a room of voices. On your own, there is nowhere to hide — and nowhere your progress can hide either. Lessons build the fundamentals that carry every style, from classical to contemporary:
- Breath and support — the engine behind a steady, unforced tone
- Pitch and intonation — hearing a note, finding it, and holding it true
- Tone and resonance — a fuller, warmer, more even sound across your range
- Range and flexibility — extending what your voice can do, safely
- Diction and expression — shaping words and phrases so a song actually says something
(Prefer singing with others? Our [Choir] classes are the place for ensemble work and harmony. Many students do both — solo lessons to build the instrument, choir to learn to blend it.)
Who it’s for
No prior experience is needed, and no one is too old to begin.
- Children finding their voice for the first time
- Adults who have always wanted to sing and never had the chance to learn properly
- Nervous first-timers who think they “can’t sing” — usually an untrained voice, not an absent one
- Students preparing for graded singing exams, auditions, or performances
Classes run individually or in small groups, at both centres and online, so the format fits the singer rather than the other way around.
How we teach
Every voice is different, so every path is. Lessons are patient and personal — paced to the singer in the room, built on real technique rather than quick tricks that sound impressive and teach nothing.
Our conviction is simple: real progress over the illusion of it. A voice that has genuinely grown, term on term, is worth far more than one coached to fake a single song. That takes individual attention, honest feedback, and time — which is exactly how we teach.
Graded progress, if you want it
Singing has a full ABRSM examination path, grade by grade, the same structured ladder our instrumentalists follow. For students who want a clear measure of progress — or a recognised qualification — we prepare them for it properly.
For those who simply want to sing well, there is no obligation to sit a single exam. The structure is there when you want it, and out of the way when you don’t.
